I have very bad ankles. My right, though, is much worse than my left (having been broken twice in six months as a kid), and the tendons and ligaments in there are very loose. Often, they'll "dislocate." It's usually pretty easy to pop them back where they need to go, and it's mostly painless (it hurts to walk when they're dislocated, but more like a very slight bruise). Just roll the foot around a few times, bend it in once or twice and you'll hear the crackle and pop of the tendons and eventually they find their place again.

Several days ago I woke up and my foot CRACKED with a popped tendon while I was getting out of bed (to show you how bad my ankles are, I was simply lifting my leg out of the bed when it cracked). I've tried rolling my foot for hours popping my ligaments around, to no avail. It's not hurting when I walk, but the loud SNAP of the tendon popping over a muscle or bone or whatever it's popping over is very annoying.

Is this something I'd go to a chiroprator for? Emergency foot surgery? Get Over It Therapy?

I would go with an orthopedic surgeon first. They know bones and joints.

Some popping and such is likely to be with you forever, but there's no harm in talking to someone because... well, who knows what could be going on in there; too many people I know are actually losing tendons to wear.

I -think- the person you want to go to is an orthopedist/sports medicine doctor.
