100 days to go.

Gas is expected to be $4 a gallon, I'll have over $100 for each fill up of the pickup. We're in a recession, if not downright economic depression. I won't be able to bring everything with me. If it all fails, I'll have no real safety net. 2000 miles in s a sixteen year old pickup with 220,000 miles. In the summer. With no A/C. Possibly through a desert. Holy crap, what am I doing.

Other than that, things are looking good. My job seems currently stable and should be providing me with a good stream of money until August. I'll be taking a week's vacation sometime in May - I'd like very much to see folks during that week. I plan to make use of my remaining vacation time towards the end of the lease to pack and move stuff home I can't bring with me.

Once I'm there, I'll be staying with friends for a bit, either to keep job hunting, or if I get an job before I move there, apartment hunting. Once I'm settled in, the NEXT move, to Canada, starts planning...but the timetable for that is all up to Canadian Immigration....

I'm worried - but I can do this. It all comes down to money, and the saving thereof. I moved from State College, PA to Austin, TX with $300 in my pocket. When I leave I should have $2500 in credit, and about as much in cash. Still, wish me luck.

Emily is pretty much a Vancouverite now. Now that she's settled, it's time for me to start becoming a Seattle-something. Seattlite? :D

Seattlite is the usage I've heard. Of course if that doesn't turn your crank you could always call yourself Washingtonian : )

I'm good for a helping hand(out). Just ask Emily.

Could be worse. If you move further north to Bellingham, you'll be a Bellinghamster.

=) Hello, I person-hopped to you.

I grew up in TX, lived near Dallas for 17 years. Now I live in Portland, Oregon, which is generally considered by locals to be the softer, cheaper Seattle.

So I am sure you already said this in a previous entry, but can you tell me why you are moving to Canada? I have thought about Vancouver many times myself, but never seriously researched what it would take. I would personally make the move just for the free health care... But Vancouver is fabulous too!

Anyway, you should plan on visiting Portland when you are closer... Let me know if you need a tour guide! My girl, Anna has lived in the area for the better part of her 31 years and makes a fabulous tour guide!

Howdy, fellow Texan. :)

I'm moving to Canada because my girlfriend lives in Vancouver, and realizing that getting her here to Texas would be more of a serious pain than me going to her. She'd lose more benefits than she'd gain. I'm going to miss Texas, and my friends there, but at the same time, I gotta do what needs to be done, and hope for the best. :)
