Saturday, August 2nd (or the day we ate a shitload of food (and now that I say that, shitload and food DO NOT belong in the same sentence))
After a nice Indian dinner, we spent the night at Dean's, to have one last day in Austin. We got to meet the newest member of the Dean household, Rocky, a perpetual motion machine/canine mix.

Seen here attempting to be the World's Flattest Puppy. Reach for the stars, Rocky. Reach for those stars.

From there, we had an Open Invitation to Dim Sum for anyone who'd want to come, and lo and behold, [livejournal.com profile] erinlefey and [livejournal.com profile] tangentsferret showed up. We spent a good time with them. We even dragged them home for a bit so Emily could drop off some Coffee Crisps for Marca, who'd grown a taste for them when she went to Vancouver for their honeymoon.

Now to get something off my chest...

I've treated you two badly. When I first moved to Texas, you both blew the doors wide open for me, and welcomed me into your home, literally and figuratively. I enjoyed all the times we had together, and it was great. I appreciated everything you did for me, the chances and opportunities you gave me, and the worlds you opened for me. I'm sorry the last half of our friendship became so sparse. It was and is totally my issue, and one I'm still working on the issue (and it is my issue to get over), and I wanted to tell you both this when you visited, but I couldn't bring myself to do it, and while apologies from 2000 miles away don't mean squat, I hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive me dropping off the face of the Earth as I did.

We said our goodbyes, and with a belly full of Dim Sum, we then began...to get dinner ready. Dean makes four dishes I absolutely ADORE. Mac and Cheese, Hamloaf, Waffles of Insane Greatness and Greek Orzo Salad. Waffles were right out, but Dean was determined to make the other three for dinner, no matter how full we were from Dim Sum.

The problem is, it's hard to find ground ham in Texas, one of the reasons we'd never had Hamloaf in Texas. We'd bought some hams to get ground up, but the store refused to do it, so sadly for our tastebuds (but prolly happily for our waist lines) hamloaf was right out.

Dean spent the day making the Orzo Salad and Mac and Cheese while we played Billion Pin Bowling on his Wii. Dinner was delicious, and we talked and enjoyed the rest of the evening with Dean and Jill before turning in.

Is that a bluetick coonhound? Looks suspiciously like the Perpetual Motion And Annoyance Machine we just adopted.

Dunno for sure... he was adopted from a rescue group. He's definitely a mix - we think more likely a blue heeler mix, or maybe pointer mix...? He's not going to be all that big.

He can be an Annoyance Machine. For instance, RIGHT THIS MINUTE, he has discovered that he can drag a stick over bare floor for a nails-on-a-chalkboard effect. He is intrigued by this.

But he is also a Penn State fan, I discovered today, which excuses much. :D
