Or do I go to Sony, who put Lik-Sang out of business with some really shady legal maneuvering?

Not only that, but keep in mind that Sony directly smacked down Lik-Sang. With Microsoft, it wasn't them directly but one of their contractors that got you. Doesn't really excuse what happened, of course, but still...

Well to put things in perspective, Lik-sang did some foolish things. I'll make it very simply, the easiest way to get sued out of business is to sell worldwide. That is why each company opens their own (independant) divisions and sells from their own warehouses in that country. Should X company get pissed off, only X's subsidiary goes out of business. That's the idea behind LLC's in the US, should they get sued, only the company goes out of business.

Modchips, or pretty much anything that allows the playing of backup copies are not legal anywhere except in countries with loose intellectual property laws. China is one of those countries. In fact, China IS the reason region lockouts exist, to prevent everyone else in the world form importing counterfeit copies.

Pretty much any Nintendo product obtained from China is counterfeit.
