She may have been joking, but she wasn't that far off. Post oaks (ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post_oak ) do make good posts, but the reason so may places are named for them are because they're (A) very decorative and useful shade trees and (B) not another damn pine.
There are also a lot of places named after gum trees, but that's less common because people hate stepping on the balls.
