I'm getting the strangest idea that V.C. Andrews may have had a lot of family issues.

Yeah I get that impression too. Unfortunately pretty much all of her work falls into the category of "incredibly triggery" for me. I didn't know she wrote like that till I read one of her books I had laying around. >.
