The storm of 2002 has blown away the rainfall records that were set in October 1998.

The two storms, though similar in the way they attracted rainfall, are both very different systems.

The storms of 1998 came in rapid sequence, providing 36 solid hours of torrential rainfall that dropped some 30 inches of rain in isolated areas.

The Flood of 2002 also is related to an upper level storm, but this was a single larger system that has lingered over the area for more than seven days, bringing more than 40 inches of rainfall in many areas across South Texas.

More rain is in the forecast, but it seems that we will be getting larger breaks between the storms, hopefully allowing us more time to recover from these record setting floods.
