IT'S 4th NATIONAL JENN DAY!
AND YOU! GET THE PRESENTS!
Well, sorta. :) Not like there're really presents to give out, or anything. However...the Big Writing Project of Doom is up, and awaiting your perusal. You can find it here.
Was reading over Elenderel's journal today. She mentioned a dream she had which had both magick AND God in it. You know, I never thought about dreams like that. My dreams, while not boring, don't ever involve anything supernatural, magick or spiritual. It's almost like the laws of physics apply in my dreams, too. Deener had flying dreams, but not me. The only thing I had going for me was I could breathe underwater.
I guess deep down inside, I really don't believe in anything supernatural...Even though I'd like to. The pain of being bound to this earthly plane! :)
Any ways, Erin left me a message today, asking if I wanted to come over for a bite to eat, and to veg out in her six acres of woods. I was mightily tempted, yessir, but decided against it. I kinda had this thing about wanting to go to Lake Buchanan today. I felt the need to be by water, for some reason, and drove quite a long ways to Lake Buchanan, the only really big lake in the area.
I got a good look at Granite Mountain, much smaller than Enchanted Rock, but just as much fun to stare at, considering a bunch of it seems to just be gone. Still, it's a lot farther away and a lot bigger than I thought it would be.
Just south of Kingsland FM 1431 goes up the side of a mountain. Here there is a BEAUTIFUL overlook to Lake LBJ and Lake MArble Falls. So so beautiful, you can see for a good twenty miles south. I wasn't close enough to water here, though - on to Buchanan Dam.
I hit Buchanan Dam about 6:30PM, and was disappointed that there were so many people there. The more people there are, the more I feel uncomfortable. But, dammit, this is National Jenn Day - screw anyone else. I got up on the observation deck, and the view was tremendous...but not good enough. I went down to the shoreline, but something here just wasn't right. I looked over at the dam itself. Looked at the canyon on he other side of the dam. Did some mental calculations. And then I smiled.
1 mile later, I made it almost dead center of the dam, right above the mouth of the Llano River. The view from HERE, was what I wanted. No shoreline below me - just deep deep water. There's something about deep water that's just not the same as shoreline water. Dunno what it is, but there is a difference. I wished I coulda made the dam disappear, and hold back the water by pure force of will so it'd just be me and the water, but that only happens in comic books. I need a pontoon boat of some kind - something to put me in the middle of that lake, where I won't see a dam, or a shore. :)
I stayed there for some time, prolly over an hour, just drinking in (not literally) the lake and the calm ocean currents. I wish I could make up my mind...some days I'm a Water Person, other days I'm an Earth Person. Maybe I should just compromise and go for being a Mud Person.
On the way back, I got to see a cool cool Myst/Riven type thing in real life. Sitting just off the main dam is a building, connected by a concrete ramp. A big stone structure, sitting on a deep deep part of the lake. I'm sure it's just a maintenance hut or some such, but it looked so funky. Like a jailhouse or office building anchored to the water. Next time I go back, I get pictures.
Started to head back, and found a picnic area unlike any others. Texas has these little picnic areas dotting the highways and roads - not like the big areas where you have picnic tables, a restroom, vending machines and dedicated parking. These are literally just side areas, feet away from the highway, with a table, chair, grill, and if your lucky, shade. I like these little things, despite the fact they're right off the freeway. Usually, they're put in some scenic areas. Huge vistas, or historical markers. But this one. This one was different.
The whole Buchanan Dam/Llano/Burnet/Fredericksburg area is dotted with granite. HUGE granite boulders are just sitting around everywhere...and here, someone at TXDOT had decided to make a picnic area with a difference. You had you table, benches, shade and drill. Heck, you even had a dedicated parking area. But the shade was from trees. Not from an artificial cover...and the table and benches? Pure granite. Granite steps leading you to an elevated granite table with granite benches. Either side of you were granite slabs sticking out at various angles, all sheltering you from the wind. Hats off to the designers of that place!
I went on home...tended to the blisters my feet got walking all over the dam and the picnic area. I gotta get walking more often. I also need new shoes. Shoes are coming. :)
What an excellent day!

I did a stupid thing today. I must promise myself not to this stupid thing EVER again. IT will not be repeated here, as it was very stupid, and this reminder will remind me to take it easier next time. This stupid thing had nothing to do with Lake Buchanan, Lake LBJ, Granite Mountain or Buchanan Dam. There is nothing to see here. Move along. Jenn, don't ever do that again.
