I myself perfer the new "Carp Deluxe"
Oct. 9th, 2005 08:37 amIt's funny...when we first came up with the idea for The Lesson of Patience, there was no Khaneni/Nen'a. The 14 page story simply told how Han'a became a hunter, which is kinda following the path I have now, except that there was no Khaneni, and Han'a was never really "retired."
We made Khaneni for the sole reason of putting in a sort of urgent spin on keeping Han'a as a hunter past what would have been a time that she needed to stop hunting. I never really wanted to bring transsexuality INTO the series (that's what Closetspace is for), and used it simply as an excuse to get Han'a back in the hunting parties.
But slowly, Nen'a has really exploded into depth in my head, and hasbeen sneaking and needling her way into the story more than I really wanted to. First it was having issues with the other mothers, then the reason for Han'as first solo kill, then the assistant to the nurse who saved her life, and then Han'a's spouse and "father" to Emm'a (which pretty much forces her into the story). And now she's needled her way back in, running interference for another character and introducing another.
Not that I mind, I REALLY like writing for Nen'a, a lot. :D I think it's her happiness and acceptance among the others depite the fact that NOTHING can be done to help her be more female in this time other than the longer hair and braid.
She's prolly become my fave character in this part.
