The Great Snow of 2008 is over, and it's almost like it never happened now (although the landslide warnings are kinda creepy, especially here on the steep hills of Mount Dolari).

Being snowbound wasn't too bad, really...cuddling with Emily was nice, as were the long walks in the snow. We did get a bit crabby on one day, but being locked in the house for three days in a row does that to a person (as the Mythbuster proved!). I really enjoyed the snow, though, and hope it comes back for a (short) stay.

Christmas day was the first day we could really leave the house, but we didn't as both Emily and I were feeling kinda down (she'd been ill from a bad breakfast, and dinner did me in). But Christmas Day, we went out on the town. With everything we went through in our area of Seattle, it looks like Seattle got smacked harder than we did. Driving TO the University District wasn't a problem, driving IN it was. The snow was a good two inches higher than on Renton Hill, but the hills weren't as severe, so moving around wasn't bad at all.

We managed to sneak into a parking spot near the freeway for a nice visit with [livejournal.com profile] soltice and [livejournal.com profile] pazi_ashfeather. I'd known Tess for several years through the DOR Webcomics project, and Pazi I'd just met through Tess. We spent some time just talking and visiting, followed by a Christmas Dinner of DiGorno's pizza and MST3K's Santa Claus Conquers the Martians. A good time was had by all.

We left the Ashfeather Household about five and headed over to Casa Lindsey in Bellevue. If I thought Renton or Seattle was bad, Bellevue looks like it had a snow bomb go off. Erin and company live in a flat area, accessable only through a valley on one side, a hill on the other. The truck doesn't do snow all that well going up hilly surfaces in snow, so we went around the back way, which kept us pretty level until we heade down onto their street.

My god...The streets in Bellevue had at least a foot of snow all on the roads. Where it wasn't more than 6 inches deep was where cars had sheared the snow surface. The truck handled beautifully if messily in the snow, especially when we took a wrong turn and needed to reverse out. The only real scare was trynig to o a 180 in their cult de sac so I was facnig down hill when I left. I did the 180...lots sharper than my trucks turning radius really is. :D

Lissa, Erin's fiancee, is an AMAZING cook. And the dinner was just as amazing - Christmas Ham, au grauten potatoes, steamed veggies, brandy chocolates and apple jigglers. :9 Loren gave me a present - which made me feel REALLY guilty - but the 1989 Era Game Boy Brick she gave me (with F1 Racer!) quickly made me very happy again. Anyone out there have a flash card I can use in my gameboy? :) )

Our gift to them was a showing of MST3K's Santa Claus, followed by Castle of Fu Man Chu. BAD movies...the gift that keeps on giving. :D

We left for home, the snow wasn't all the bad once we left the place, and I went to bed...to go to work...for the first time in five days.

Saturday, however, we got back together with Tess and Pazi, and had breakfast at this Bolivian restaurant in Pike's Place called Copacabana's. Not bad, but my god, they took forever to serve us and I had to get moving to get to work in time - I was late anyways. Oops.

Work is work, having Emily to come home to has made work all the better. I'm going to miss her when she heads back to Canada.

So, all updated, at least for now. I need to sit and work on Wishworld, and comics - I'm gonna try and not have any breaks in comics for 2009.
