I remember watching this when I was at least four? Maybe five? Shortly afterwards there was Star Blazers and the Japanese version of the Little Mermaid (don't watch that if you don't want to cry). Robotech was 1985, Star Blazers, 1979. Battle of the Planets had to be at least 1977 or 1978 for me.
