May. 25th, 2011 02:50 amI drove through the Tulalip Reservation a few days ago, and then drove through Puyallup Reservation a few months ago. I didnt spend much time in either (roadtrips tend to be MOVE MOVE MOVE so I can see as much as I can before the sun sets), but what I saw made me a bit homesick for a life I could never really have.
There are a lot of similarities between a Native tribe and my moms side of the family. And while I often chafed at the lack of privacy, the enforced closeness and the familial obligations and traditional roles...I do miss being part of a bigger whole.
I miss it. But its not a life I can live in as a transgendered woman in a traditionally Mexican world.
