Apr. 26th, 2012 01:29 pmWatching movies in our house is rough, because we're notorious riffers. We'll also make elaborate backstories to shows that don't need it, Here's some of my faves:
Star Trek Voyager: Voyager is a ship that Starfleet filled with miscreants, failures and unwantables, and send them off to get lost. They do this every few years so people think the Federation is a Perfect Society. Somehow Tuvok got stuck on the ship, too.
Dungeons and Dragons: Eric is actually the better leader. Hank just has good hair. Bobby and Uni spent most of their childhoods in The Realm. When they finally got back home, he hadn't matured emotionally to an adult. He got into college, and because of his experiences in The Realm, took a course in Parasychology in New York. Bobby "Ray" Stantz then became a Real Ghostbuster. Slimer's the ghost of Uni. Presto came up with Windows in The Realm and founded Microsoft when he got back.
Star Trek: The blue thing Spock looks into? Captain Kirk's Sexometer (ranges from Flaccid to Tumescent). It's also occasionally used to browse dirty websites on the job. Sulu has a sexometer, it says "Oh, My!" when it goes off. Oddly, never around women. McCoy is actually from New York and fakes a southern accent to get people to like him.
Robotech: Captain Gloval is actually just a crazy homeless man who got control of the SDF1 because he had a great hat. Lisa was the original captain, and just let him have it because "Oh, I don't mind." Anytime Minmei has a "new" song, everyone asks "Isn't that just the last song she sang?" Which is often true. Bridge officers often warn Rick he'll be court martial due to talking back to officers. "Oh, I don't mind."
Star Trek the Next Generation: Picard, Worf and Pulaski all speak like Sean Connery. Worf likes saying SHUT UP all the time. After any conversation with Pulaski, everyone asks if they can get the Cute Redhead Doctor back. Pulaski met with an unfortunate accident just beofre Crusher came back. Riker also has a sexometer, built into Data. It ranges from "pre-beard" to "beard."
Gummi Bears: You really need to talk to my roomie about this one. It involves poisoned water systems, and an alien invasion leaving earth in a pre-industrial feudal post apocalyptic worlkd.
Mythbusters: Interns are killed ALL THE TIME.
Star Trek Deep Space Nine: You don't mess with this show. It's AWESOME.

Apr. 26th, 2012 03:54 pmKids aren't subtle. Occasionally they're mean. So when we moved next to an elementary school, I wasn't looking forward to the 3 o'clock hour, and tried hard to be inside or outside.
Today I got back from the groceries, just as the kids let out. And sure enough, I got called out as they walked by our house.
"Daddy, I think that lady is a man."
Without skipping a beat, her father looked at her and said "So?"
"..."
And they walked on. I hope the lesson she learned was "Don't make fun of people who are 'different'" not "I need to make fun of people when daddy's not looking."
