May. 19th, 2012 12:39 amSo. Back in January, I again put in for a permanent position at AwesomeJob, and again, didn't get it. Which is okay. Seriously.
The position was a managerial one, and one I struggled with for a long time. I'm a do-er. Not a order-er. An engineer, not an officer. I do what I do so I can do what I want. Not do what I want as what I do (Koo koo ka choo). And I don't mind being the old front line soldier who the brass asks about how the new troops are doing.
Deep thoughts were thunked, and chances were taken. I considered pulling my application out several times. I couldn't be a temp forever. But I also wasn't sure I wanted a job I might not enjoy. No reward without risk. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
Even at the beginning, there were plans and side avenues to take. Paths I looked down to see the what they held. I had a good sit down with myself, to find the best situation in all these paths, and boil them down to what ended up being three positives:
If I'd gotten the job, I'd be employed at the best job I've ever had. Win.
If I'd gotten the job and hated it, I'd still be employed by the best job I've ever had, and go home in Mid-2013. Win.
If I didn't, I'd still be working at the best job I've ever had, and go home in Mid-2013. Win.
In the end, I didn't get the job. But I still won. There really was no way to lose.
So. I plan to stick around, give the new leads my best, and keep on keeping on. And, who knows...ten months is a long time. Something could come up by then....
