Fired up the shortave here in Texas. Didn't expect to get anything using just the 1 foot whip antenna, versus the 70 foot longwire antenna I have in Seattle. However I picked up WAY more stations WAY stronger than back in the PNW. Even got some European stations for the first time.

Apparently it is as simple as "Seattle just doesn't get a lot of shortwave reception."
