Oddly Connected Topic Theater Presents....

This is going to sound SUPER WIERD, but if it weren't for MK, there's a good chance Jenn Dolari wouldn't exist some twenty six years later.

Seeing this video brought back some nice memories of a very long time ago. Not many people know that MK (And to a lesser extent, Street Fighter) helped to get me out of the transgender closet. I knew I was trans WELL before MK, but MK got me to start identifying with the women in video games, such as Sonya Blade, Chun-Li, Nakoruru...and so on and so on and so on. It gave me an outlet where, for twenty five cents, I could be that woman for a few minutes, beating the tar out of anyone in my way,

Kinda liberating, you know.

Some years later, I decided to dive into the Internet Discussion of these sames at alt.games.mk and alt.games.sf2. Thankfully, this was a world before Internet jerks, and being a woman on a mostly male driven board wasn't a bad experience whatsoever. That said, no one KNEW I was trans, and I guarded that secret tightly for almost ten years (when one troll came out as a "man using a woman's name on their account" I stayed very quiet...just in case).

I made some great friends and acquaintances through MK. I still talk with a lot of the AGMK crowd (heck, I nearly married one!), some of the design team (one of whom keeps my website up), some of the actors, and getting into MK got me even deeper into video games, which got me the job I have now.

It sounds wierd, but these little videos were the start of something much bigger for me much later. :)
