May. 2nd, 2020 01:08 amSomething to keep in mind. The lockdown narrative in many of the states has shifted to saving the economy.
We did the lockdown to keep the health system from being overwhelmed. For the most part, we're doing it (in spite of the Federal government's interference). The numbers are down, But we're simply not out of the woods, yet.
While I like the phased reopening that the states are doing, the timelines are far too fast for the states opening up now. We need to slow down, despite the economy and comparisons to other countries methodologies, until we're past the point of collapsing our medical system or build our medical system's capacity up.
I just don't think we're there yet.
I know this is hard for folks who are waiting for their next paychecks, or have been furloughed, or have rents due (and even for the folks who need their haircuts and nails done, cause, sure). I hope they remember how they were treated when November comes around, because a government worth it's salt takes care of its citizens in a crisis with, I dunno, some kind of "social safety net." Something the Federal Government (no matter the adminstration, really) doesn't like doing.
I can't believe I just stood up for America's Health Care System....
