Victoria's OTHER Secret
Nov. 24th, 2003 07:30 amFRIDAY
I got a huge new plot twist in AWFW. We'll be seeing Abaddon a LOT sooner than I expected. And we will finally see a knockdown dragout Angel/Shadow fight like I wanted to do in the Hanna/Shadow fight while Andrea was running from Morningstar. I think my skills have improved, and I've got enough Ranma 1/2 reference material to pull it off. :)
SATURDAY
A couple of weeks ago I got an invite to a friend's place for a Two Towers party. I kinda forced myself to go, simply because I'm a homebody. I could prolly spend weeks in my house and not notice (and I've done it). However, a few days before, Dean and I went grocery shopping and I realized it had been a week or so since I'd step foot outside the apartment. Plus, it was a friend from work who was just as much a geek as I was. So I went.
I wasn't dissapointed. Something about a movie, with likeminded company, makes for a great time. I knew it was gonna be a good evening when I walked in, and one person was in a rennaissance gown, and another was sanding wooden swords. On top of that, they were showing World of Tomorrow Motor Company videos.
Hot tuna!
The extended Two Towers is excellent, but only seems to expand on two things of interest:
1) Saruman. He's more of a presence here. In the theatrical cut, he basically says "GO TO MORDOR, URUK-HAI! Hey, what're all these trees doing here?" Now he actually is a threat. A sitting threat, but a threat.
2) Faramir. Oh, he's not just another "Gimmie that ring" character but "Gimmie that ring so I can look good for dad, dammit." It really makes his little "I think we understand each other" line less of a "Wha wha what?" moment.
Afterwards, James, Rachel and I geeked out to Doctor Who stuff and Star Wars on laserdisk.
I really really need to get out more. :) There was a time I'd just show up on the Tangent's lawn. Now I hardly ever even LOOK east. And Lucy's been trying to get me to go out with her for YEARS now...I really need to take her up on the offer, now that I have time.
That night was Race to Finish Comics. And that race led to two screwups.
1) I forgot what Victoria was doing in Panel 6. And when I asked her, she couldn't remember. She's holding a paper behind her back, but I cannot remember what for. Well, we have a week before that becomes critical.
2) I forgot the music notes leading Allison up the stairs. Oops, Got those fixed LATE in the day.
SUNDAY
Something magical happened today. When I woke up on Sunday, I woke up to...$50 in donations. WOW. I'm back in theblack, and Internet is paid for for at least a month.
Hot Tuna II !
So this got me thinking how I could squeeze that stone. One was to create wallpapers you could only get with a donation. Seeing that AWFW has 2 free wallpapers, I made 2 free wallpapers for Closetspace which you can see HERE and HERE. The second one is the little title image I made back in 2000. Hell if I can find the originals for it anymore, so I took the really fuzzy original, zoomed it up and redrew it. I used the "base" image to make all the other wallpapers and a new cleaner title image. It's got the old style to it, though. Allison's hair if fuller, Carrie has HUGE HUGE anime eyes. I decided not to redraw it, though. Wish I could find those originals.
Then I got an EMail from Orrin over at the PFC with the great idea of making a Cafepress store. I didn't think about that. I thought about it once when I was going to make that AWFW print last year, but that was the time that Cafepress had all this wierd ownership wording in their contracts, and people were dropping them in droves. So I tried to do it locally, then my "in" dissapeared, and I gave up.
But now with the new popularity of the strip, maybe it's time to exploit this to the hilt. :D
What merchandise would YOU buy? Anything you'd like to see in the store?
All this AND 40 years of Doctor Who! What a great set of days!
