Oh, yeah, I forgot why the Robotech game gathered dust. It's insane. :) I'm not the gamer I used to be.

Well, with no huge multitasking AIM/Websurfing/TV, the time dragged on and on.

All the dishes are done, the kitchen is clean...and I still had three hours.

And I demolished my PS2. Juuuuuuuuuuuuuuust enough that I can now play imports without a modchip. ROCK. :D

I plan to create a Save Jenn's Health page pretty soon. I have exactly 50 cents in my bank account, and I figured my bills this month are some $640. I sure hope unemployment covers this.

Anyone ever done unemployment before? Do you get a "set amount" or do they approximate what you made per paycheck and give you that for X amounts of weeks? $900 a month would just about cover it.

Pretty sure it's calculated based on your normal salary. *wishes she'd paid more attention when her mom got laid off* Also pretty sure they give it to you in chunks for fairly short intervals; you have to keep checking in to confirm that you're still eligible or they stop paying, of course.

Unemployment is a weekly check based on your average salary, or it was the last time I was on unemployment. It runs for 26 weeks.

As for the problem finding a job, you are a women working in IT and IT is a boy’s club environment. I say that as someone who still presents as male. If your not male and under thirty it’s damn hard to get a job in IT. As for company loyalty or job security, that pretty much went away 25 years ago. I had a friend who got fired from her job of 30 years basically because she was making too much. Oh there was a formal reason, but the reality was that the company could hire someone less then half her age for less then half her salary. If I sound a little bitter it’s only because I am. Our fathers could make a career at one company, we can’t. The only reason I have a house is my S.O. inherited it from her mother. Even when we where both working we could not have afforded to buy a house.

On the subject of legal protections for the Transgendered, http://www.forbes.com/markets/newswire/2003/11/09/rtr1141102.html is a link to a good article on that. There are fewer states with protection for us then I thought. Still if fortune 500 companies are moving ahead with anti-discrimination moves that is a very good trend.

I found this site which purports to be helpful for folks in Texas who seek unemployment. I believe unemployment rules vary between states.

Hang in there hon!
