What's the last thing you wrote?:
http://www.dolari.org/awfw/212.htm
http://www.dolari.org/cs/209.htm

Was it any good?
Well, folks seemed to like CS. AWFW, I never get any feedback on.

What's the first thing you ever wrote that you still have?
A sheet of paper with a breakdown of "The Book of Zand" into 15 parts. Written in 1987 at the age of 13.

Was it any good?
Considering I'm planning to publish it after AWFW ends, I'm thinking it was at least KIND of decent. :D

Write poetry?
Not really, no.

Angsty poetry?
I don't write poetry at all because when I do, it's not so much angsty as it's just REALLY REALLY bad.

Favourite genre of writing?
Mostly what I call "Futuristic Fiction." Stuff that takes place a few years to a thousand years in the future, but it's drama, not based in technology or science. Which is strange consdiering CS and AWFW are no where near science fiction.

Most fun character you ever wrote?
It's really a tie between Irving T. Sausage of CS and Michael Gillespie of AWFW. IRving is just so so so much fun to write. A three foot talking sausage with a degree in Talking Like Someone Knowledgeable. Michael was a lot of fun to write because he's so much like the person he's based on, and some of the "subtle wackiness" of the real person shows through in the writing.

Most annoying character you ever wrote?
I really don't have anyone who I find annoying and hate to write for. The closest thing to annoying writing I've had to do are for shadows that only talk in rhyme...see the above questions for why.

Best plot you ever wrote?
The Book of Zand. A dream about a friend being kidnapped and held in holiding room has exploded into a sotry, 10 "novels" long, running from 3113BC to 3797AD spanning two solar systems, three races, and an alternate universe.

Coolest plot twist you ever wrote?
A character who fulfills the "Grandfather Paradox" totally by accident.

How often do you get writer's block?
Never. The closest thing I have to that is when I stop all writing so I can rework a plot (which happened several months ago with CS)

How do you fix it?
I've never had to do it, but a writer friend of mine told me to grab a dictionary, pull out 10 random words, string them into a sentence, then apply them to your story. You'll hate it so much, you can't help but come up with better alternatives, and there're your plots. :D

Write fan fiction?
No. I figure if I can write, I should write my own stuff.

Do you type or write by hand?
Type. I can write it longhand, but I'm much slower at it and if I'm writing too fast, I can't read what I wrote anymore.

Do you save everything you write?
Absolutely.

Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it?
Yes. Faith Hope and Charity were actually originally three characters named Kristen, Charlene and Julie in The Book of Zand. They were transposed over after I got rid of those cahracters.

What's your favourite thing that you've written?
I'm really fond of Han'a's prayer as Andrea goes into the underworld. http://www.dolari.org/awfw/157.htm

As for CS - I've always been a sucker for the scene where Carrie gets "outted" to the HEidi., the dominatrix. I saw that scene in my head for YEARS before I drew it, and now that I have, I can die happy. http://www.dolari.org/cs/48.htm

What's everyone else's favourite thing that you've written?
That's gotta be a tie between the entire "Ties that Bind" storyline in CS, or Carrie's "Jem or Cyndi Lauper" line. http://www.dolari.org/cs/198.htm

Do you even show people your work?
I've been publishing comics since 2001, and have been printed in three non-vanity-press books.

Who's your favourite constructive critic?
Dean's really good at being an editor for me, but, really, I don't get much criticism at all. I'd LIKE some, but there's not much.

Do you have a web site for your writings?
http://www.dolari.net

Did you ever write a novel?
I started, decided I was more fit to draw/write comics/TV/movies. I write really well, but I can't SHOW people what's in my head unless I specifically SHOW it to them. I'm very visually oriented.

Have you ever written fantasy, sci-fi, or horror?
Sci Fi. AWFW is kind of a ffantasy. Maybe.

Ever written romance or teen angsty drama?
Oh, god, no.

What's your favourite setting for your characters?
The near future. Five to twenty "years from now."

What's one genre you have never written, and probably never will?
1880s Pirate on the High Seas Romance Murder Mystery.

How many writing projects are you working on right now?
AWFW and CS, mostly. "Adventures in Egypt" and "The Book of Zand" are some strips I'm thinking of moving on to when AWFW and CS end.

Do you want to write for a living?
I wish. I would LOVE to write for a living.

Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper?
If Prism's LGBT Guide to Comics counts, then yes.

Have you ever won an award for your writing?
Never.

Ever written something in script or play format?
Everything I write nowadays in done in some kind of screenplay format. Here's an early draft of Closetspace #1 in a longer 28-page screenplay-ish format: http://www.dolari.org/cs/makingclosetspace/may1996draftofroommatewanted.htm

What are your five favourite words?
Actually, absolutely, really, d'ohh and wha?

Do you ever parody?
No. I did at the beginning of my "career," but it all boiled down to "If I can write something, I can write something original."

What's your favourite thing to parody?
Swedish meatballs in butter sauce.

Do you actually like that thing, or are you spitefully making fun of it?
I dunno. If it's really rich butter....

Do you ever write based on yourself?
"I've had myself based on what I write," she said cryptically....

What character that you've written most resembles yourself?
Novel #9 of The Book of Zand has a character named Mason. He's definately a representation of the pre-transition me. That whole story features my friends of my high school years as characters struggling to survive on a colony world, so it's one great big self-reference.

Where do you get ideas for your other characters?
I really don't know. They kinda just come to me, mostly fully formed, or at least as empty vessels that I can tell "Go there" and they do. As a writer friend of mine once commented about where my characters come from, "Jenn...you scare me sometimes."

Do you ever write based on your dreams?
Often. The whole reason I keep a dreamjournal is to mine for good stories. http://jddreamjournal.livejournal.com/

Do you favour happy endings, sad endings, or cliff-hangers?
All three.

Have you ever written based on an artwork you've seen?
"I've based artwork on what I've written," she said cryptically.

Are you concerned with spelling and grammar as you write?
No, that's what editors and spellcheck are for. :D

Ever write something entirely in chatspeak? (How r u?)
I dont write in chats with chatspeak!

Entirely in L337?
OMG, STFU.

Was that question completely appalling and un-writer like?
lol, n00b

Does music help you write?
Yup, and music can help define characters and plots for me. A whole scene in my head from The Book of Zand matches perfectly in time to the 8 minute version of "Stealing the Enterprise" from Star Trek III's soundtrack.

Do you have a weblog or livejournal?
Maybe. Depends on who is asking....

Are people surprised and confused when they find out you write well?
The ones in my family who never took time to see what I Was doing often are when they find out I've been published.

Quote something you've written. The first thing to pop into your mind.
"We stand here, looking for words and phrases to reassure us, to give us hope for the future. But the fact that we stand here, together, at this place, show us that we do not NEED hope. Do not NEED reassurance. The fact that we are here shows that hope for a brighter future for ourselves and out posterity exists in us all. That together, we care enough to say 'This ends now!'"
