This episode of Closetspace just kicked my ass three ways to Sunday. With the end of the "Crossing the Threshold" storyline, I realized that I had NOTHING planned for Allison's second half of the story except for a really really generalized "Well, she fixes someone's house, and he has a thing for her."

I pulled out the old CS outlines from the mid 90s and realized that Crossing the Threshold had not only finished up it's storyline, but eaten into a good chunk of the next episode in my storyline. Which meant that episode "The Big Time" already had half it's story eaten up by "Crossing the Threshold." Looking over my notes from 1996, I looked to see what the Allison thread held in store, and noticed that her story ate into THREE MORE EPISODES.

Man I was stupid thinking those one sentence outlines would fill out a whole 10 or 15 page webcomic. So I took her entire storyline, reedited it together and came up with one episode that would work.

The problem with that was just trying to figure out how to start it and move it along, when I had very little idea about how to "fill it out." When I was in Decatur, I took pictures of a WHOLE bunch of houses, including the house that is now Allison's. One I took a pic of because it looked very much like a Miami Vice beachhouse. And that's when it hit me. We KNEW Allison was going to this guys house for a job. And he wants a Miami Vice 80s paradise!

Lo and behold, we now have a hook and some comedy to go with it. Allison's story has been a bit dour of late, and she needs a good laugh. And we need to laugh with her.

The titles were tough to figure out, simply because the ones I wrote were so pretentious. The titles being "The Big Time," "Fallen, Fallen," and "Extremeties." I kept shoving around titles in my head, thinking of some bad 1980s movies to rip titles from like "True Romance," or "The Big Chill" but I didn't like any of those. I came up with "To Live and Die in 1986" but it sounded wrong, and Stan is going to be looking for love in this episode, so I changed it to "To Live and Love in 1984." We shouldn't have any problems with the rest of the episodes up until "Extremeties" (or "Dark Continents") which are the episodes AFTER this one. Then I need to rethink the storyline again and move it along.

Next comic I make is gonna be less strutctured. Having to rewrite on the fly sucks.
