Why I like the command prompt:

One of the biggest functions of any computer I have is file sharing. Mainly, I like to have a central PC, with lots of files, shared to access from any laptop. Right now, Star Trek 4 is playing on the laptop, streaming from this machine. For Windows, file sharing is pretty easy. On XP, just rung through the "Set Up a Local Network" wizard once, and from there, right click on a file, and click "Share." Boom, done.

For such a powerful networking system, the filesharing of XFCE4 is kind of a jerk. You need to make sure yuo have Samba installed, have it configured, then install a plugin for the Thunar File Manager, and hope it all works. Thing is, I've never gotten it to work. I spent most of the evening trying differnet config files, different installations sequences, all sorts of poking and prodding. So much I broke it.

After finally thinkgin I'd just have to manually share files I want as I wanted via configuration files and stopping and restarting modules, just to move one file to another...I thought: "Hey, what's a command prompt solution for this?"

Apparently, it's "net usershare add ::name:: ::path:: "" Everyone:R guest_ok=y" . And it sticks! :)
