Ten things I've done that you may not have:

1. Been the school newspaper's resident illustrator

2. Designed a parade float

3. Invited Mormons INTO my house, and discussed the Book of Mormon with them.

4. Worked at a comic book store

5. Had a self-proclaimed vampire suck my blood (and then tell me it was the worst she'd ever tasted)

6. Learned to read Hiragana, Katakana and about 100 words of Chinese

7. Rode a bike down a hill at 60 mph and survived

8. Driven 100 miles round trip for cinnamon rolls (and farther for less)

9. Draw a pretty well respected webcomic

10. Been invited as a guest to a convention due to said comic

We (my ex-p and I) invited the Mormons in once. I had been home sick all day and was bored to death, and the Mormons were the first interesting thing to happen to me. I was in my "Strong Enough for a Man But Made For A Woman" t-shirt and nothing else, and ex-p was in her Lesbian Avengers shirt and jeans. *grin* They gave us a book of Mormon each. She and I looked at each other, then started rifling our bookshelves, offfering them in exchange a Poetic Edda, a Bhagavad-Vita (sp.?), a Koran, a Torah, a Satanic Bible and a Witches Bible Compleat. Then we asked them to stay for dinner and play Scrabble but they wouldn't. Pity...such nice young men...

I can touch a few of these, but not many.

3) I once invited the Jehovah's Witnesses in, and talked to them about religion until they made lame excuses and left.

4) Once, when my favorite comic book store was moving, I volunteered to haul boxes for an afternoon in exchange for merchandise discounts.

6) Done it.

OoOOoO

The only one of those I can touch is #8. A few years ago, on a day off from work I drove from DC to State College PA in order to take my girlfriend on a surprise lunch date. I Left home at 8am, got there at noon. Two hours for lunch, left at 2 PM and made it home by 7.

I did also have an interesting experience involving Mormons, but it didn't involve inviting into my home (though I tried). Another story for another time.

You went to a restaurant in State College?! Which one? I lived there for five years. :D

The DC/SC drive isn't all the bad. I did Baltimore/SC all the time to catch flights out on Southwest. Although US322 through the narrows was really inds scary. Sheer mountain on one side, river on the other, and houses somehow squeezed inbetween.

It was definitely Faccia Luna. Nice little Italian place right on South Atherton. It was actually one of our favorite places to go when we both lived in Alexandria VA, as they have a restaurant down here too.

I only made the trip up there via US322 once... Typically my route was I-270 > I-70 > Pa Turnpike > I-99 > US220 > US322 (Atherton). If 270 was a mess I'd take the Dulles Toll Road / Greeenway to Leesburg, then VA 7 to Winchester, and US522 to Hancock, MD - where it would join I-70 at the PA border. A bit longer, but it did bypass suburban Maryland.
