The company I work for now is based out of Austin. My boss just sent out this email: "For those of us in Austin please work from home today as the roads are not safe enough to drive on."
Nearly choked on my coffee. But I know that it's totally different when you don't have any infrastructure for dealing with snow and ice. Still. Those of us in the north do laugh up our sleeves a little.
I had a friend who took a job in Atlanta. One night, there was about an inch of snow, and he showed up to work the next morning and there was no one but the security guard there.
"Where is everyone?" "Oh, it snowed last night." "Yeah, it did. Where is everyone?" "It. Snowed. Last. Night. The office is closed." "Really?" "Yeah, man, it SNOWED! Go home, be safe out there."
Yeah...I stayed home for a few hours because, while I have confidence in my driving skills below freezing, I don't have ANY confidence in anyone else around here. :)
