Running into a serious problem with the jobs. They're all offering $10-12/hr. If I even mention $16/hr, which is what I need to get even a small apartment in Austin, I'm basically told "Thanks for applying!" No negotiation, no nothing.

Unless I get $16/hr, there's no need for the job - I'll lose my apartment no matter what, but $16 is what will get me a cheap studio or even efficiency. At $12, I'd need to find an apartment in Austin for $360/month. And I was paying MORE than than in much cheaper San Antonio in 1996.

I think I'm in trouble.

Everyone i know earning that sort of money lives with flatmates. Even back in the 90s it was that way. As awesome as living alone is, it's definitely a luxury. I know it's important to you, but in your career that means that means you gotta find work in a seriously cheap ass town.

Not true.back in the 90s I was living on my own on much less. Lived on my own in 2001 comfortably until Dell let me go. I even did it at DNP for two years with tons of money left over making less than I am now. This is why I keep saying New Normal. I did it. I lived it. But it can't do it anymore. Wages are being driven down while prices are going up. And it's sad to see that happening all around me and my friends.

I may, sadly, need to move back with my parents, which to me is a sure sign I'd failure, just because I cut out rent completely that way. But the job situation in San Antonio is even worse. That's why I'm trying. It may be foolish and unrealistic, but I have to try.
