I doubt you’ll find a lot of old anime at Crunchyroll – although there are a few oldies. I can’t even keep up with the new shows they bring in every season. It’s easiest to evaluate Crunchyroll’s List of All Anime Shows. We’re in-between seasons right now, so their season Lineup of new series is empty – but there will be a bunch.
I personally think Crunchyroll is worth the annual subscription (which is cheaper per month than the one month at a time rate), but I'm way crazy about anime, so I'm not a good reference point.
And Crunchyroll is free if you don't mind the commercials. (I don't like commercials, so I pay for the subscription. Plus subscribers get new episodes on the series' broadcast date - not delayed one week.
