I admit, I find such situations oddly exhilarating - maybe in part, a break from the norm, in part, the awe-inspiring power of natural forces reminding us we're just along for the ride. (I'm a leporine. I have no problem being humble and afraid =:)
There was one time a sort-of-hometown got flooded a couple years back, which I accidentally caught, as my intended train route was disrupted. Here's during the flood, and here's a more normal view - the small island was completely submerged, and the bridge normally has a little more leeway.
