When I joined alt.games.mk and alt.games.sf2 in the early 90s, I did so as a woman...I was happily welcomed into the group with open arms. People were HAPPY to see women sharing the hobby. We were kind of wanted there.

I don't know where that all went wrong. Just that it has.

I miss those days.

I really miss Usenet. It worked so well! It was all based on well-established, open protocols, so there were a billion newsreaders to choose from - some online, some offline, some graphical, some purely textual. (I tended to prefer trn for shell use, and ya-NewsWatcher on Mac OS, as it offered quite good filtering, based on arbitrary weight assignments) Ah, alt.sex.bondage in its heyday.. and I landed a couple jobs via misc.jobs.offered. I even helped create alt.lycra. ^_^

Are you on SL at all? Even if not, you might like to participate in the community that makes up SL Universe. It's a very good place for discussions of all kinds, not only pertaining to Second Life. Fools and bigots are not cut any slack (and seldom bother trying =:), and there's quite a diverse crew, from all walks of life.

Heh. I know of alt.lycra.

I was once oven Second Life. Even a very very involved participant.

Then came the Great Unpleasantness....

I go back rarely. Feel free to friend me there: Carrie Talaj.

There's really only one trace I'd me left on SL. Go to Celerio sim, go up to the railroad near Second Life Synagogue. You'll find a train station I made when I owned a quarter of the Sim.
