Everything you like is problematic and a product of its time. Even today's stuff.

Once you learn to accept that, the world becomes a bit easier to live with.

It's something that constantly occurs to me with sci-fi - less so with books and comics, much more with films, where essentially every societal norm is, mysteriously, all but identical there, despite being however many hundreds or thousands of years hence, or on the other side of the galaxy. =:P Good as The Expanse is, it's certainly not a setting where people are in the least different to right now, which is a touch disappointing.

Once upon a time, Benny Hill's objectification of women was perfectly fine. Heck, even the use of a very white actor in the Doctor Who "The Talons of Weng Chiang" wasn't anything odd, despite the ready availability of actually Chinese actors. Ah well. Someday, we'll have something like MLP where it's actually no big deal to suggest two ponies of the same gender are a couple. (Though, from what I understand, Steven Universe has made quite a bit of progressive headway. I've still yet to see any of it, beyond a little of the iOS game)
