Jan. 19th, 2016 04:14 pmSo. Something I've needed to get off my chest without panicking anyone.
Before this last week, the last time I needed an insulin shot was January 2015 My blood sugar has inexplicably gone way way way up the last few weeks, possibly as far back as the trip to Texas.
I managed to sign up for insurance last week, and see a doctor about today. I have fresh insulin pens now, and am using my old scale to get my blood sugar under control again, which I'm hoping still work. Eitherway, I should be able to get into more acceptable ranges.
The downside, and the reason for the "Second Job?" I can't afford my insurance. I barely cover necessities right now, and signing up for insurance has put me deep into the red. I've tried to monetize the comics before and failed. Patreon so far has been my best bet at monetizing the comics.
I'm hoping it all works out. While I have someone who is essentially bankrolling my insurance costs, and any out-of-pocket medical costs (WHICH SHE SHOULDN'T NEED TO DO UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES), The American Healthcare System NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY OVERHAULED. Obamacare is not enough. I don't need a medical "patron." I need single payer healthcare.

The NHS is very far from perfect, but, it will provide coverage from the smaller things up to anything major, at no extra cost - and if you do happen to have extra cash, you remain free to pick up private insurance, or simply go private directly. Needless to say, the current regime is doing what it can to hive off as much as possible into private hands, providing their donors with more of an profit stream, at public expense.
With Sanders apparently actually pulling ahead of Clinton in Iowa, I wonder if the US might actually have a serious chance at single payer in the future?
Needless to say, I hope you're able to keep the sugar level safe and stable. Any idea why that might now have started to go wacky again?
I wonder if I should try setting up a Patreon for my photography? I'm not sure what kind of perks I might be able to sensibly offer, but, it's an attractive prospect, given how easy it is for people to add their support, and how broad support is for Patreon generally (plus no need for the repellent PayPal!). FSM knows, I'd love to guide it from being purely a hobby into something that at least begins to repay the costs involved.
