Mar. 28th, 2016 07:31 pmI have a dead Nintendo 3DS with five years of save data trapped on it. I have several option, none of them ideal.
1) Have it repaired. This is free for me, but will almost assuredly result in getting a generic 3DS back and my games, but a chance that the save data will not be recoverable.
2) Buy a new one. This is not free, but does come at a discount, which I still may not be able to afford. The save data is gone, but I can at least get all my old games back. I keep the special edition as a momento.
3) Transfer to my old 3DS. My "Working" 3DS (my testbed for work, really) still works although is very very very old and on its last legs. Two routes:
3A) Just ask for a transfer - this will get my games on the old system, but no save data. The save data is gone, but I can at least get all my old games back. I keep the special edition as a momento.
3B) Completely kill the repairability of the special edition and attempt to repair it myself. Once done, it just has to last long enough to transfer the save data to the old 3DS. The save data is possibly intact, I get all my old games back. I keep the special edition as a momento. If it fails, though, I'm 100% sunk with a special edition paperweight.
What do you think is best? I can't think straight when it comes to money these days.
I feel like a complete idiot for forgetting the 3DS was in the pocket of my jeans, and that all that money literally washed down the drain.
