I'm not kidding about that Zelda thing. I'd do it. Cause I've kinda done it before: let me tell you about my sequel to Mortal Kombat the Movie.

Back in the early 90s, I attempted to get into TV. I took some scriptwriting lessons, contacted a local agent who was interested, discussed with him possibilities, all with the goal in mind to make this transgender TV show that I had in my head. It wasn't long before he told me "Listen, if you want to do this, you have to write something that's going to make a lot of money, cause it takes a lot of people to make these things. And they need to get paid. None of the things I'm seeing are that." Considering that about the same time that a comic artist I knew sat me down and said "Listen, you're chasing a pipe dream if you think you can go pro with this stuff" I threw up my hands and gave up. For a while...

...in 1995, the Mortal Kombat movie came out, and I went to see it. I think it's a pretty solid movie. Not gonna win any Oscars, but it was a solidly fun popcorn Kung Fu Flick. And then there were rumours of a sequel. And I knew I could write it. So I actually emailed Treshold Entertainment and asked them about accepting an unsolicited script before sending them anything. And I began writing a treatment.

I did finish the treatment that freaking EVENING after about two or three solid hours of writing. Went to bed late that night (well, early that morning) only to get a message back saying they didn't accept unsolicited scripts in any form, and were going to do the writing in-house. I wasn't crushed really - I knew it was a long shot. I hit the delete key and never saw it again. I did try again with the Mortal Kombat Konquest TV Series, and got the same answer back (which is good cause I didn't have any ideas for it). Since then, the only real attempt to get back into TV was sending a rewritten version of the Closetspace pilot to a BBC contest in 2013 (I made at least 80th out of 320!). I do write a pilot episode of SOMETHING every so often just for practice.

So Threshold's sequel came out and it was a complete disaster. And I always kinda smirked that my treatment was better. So what was it?

My movie started a few weeks after the end of the first movie, with the entire Mortal Kombat Crew in hiding in the now "currently being pilliaged" Earth. With "The Emperor" aka Shao Khan slowly assimilating the Earth, Raiden (As protector of said Earth) is slowly losing his powers. He's decided to kill two birds with one stone, and try to not only retake Earth from Khan, but use that as a way to overthrow Khan from Outworld.

Khan has yet to actually come to Earth, so Raiden using his ever limiting power, opens a portal to Outworld for possibly the last time, and has all the folks from the first movie (now including Jax) transported to Outworld to meet their new partners in their burgeoning rebellion: Mileena and Baraka.

Mileena is Kitana's twin sister, who has worn a mask for as long as she can remember. Baraka is a native outworlder (who look evil as all get out with the sharp teeth and insect eyes and ewewewewew) whos people were displaced by Shao Khan's own invasion of their world.

Mileena's in it for her sister. Baraka for his people. They all plan an insurrection that will deliver Liu Kang, Sonya, Johnny Cage, Kitana, Mileena and Baraka to Shao Khan's palace to face the Emperor himself.

Side stories include Raiden looking for the remains of Shang Tsung to "repower" himself temporarily to allow them all to go home if they're successful. Sonya and Jax (As military people) act as on-the-field generals training and then later directing the Outworlder volunteers as soldiers. Johnny Cage & Sonya comedic relief. Liu Kang and Kitana Sexual Tension. Give everyone something to do.

When the day comes, the group storms Khan's palace, hordes of Outworlders fighting hordes of Kahn's soldiers, all the while, everyone trying to get Kang, Kitana. Mileena, Baraka and Johnny Cage into the palace. Raiden is still off looking for Shang's remains, Jax and Sonya are directing the battle.

Once they get in, they find the place oddly empty. Khan doesn't think much of protecting the place, cause he thinks its impenetrable. Through talking, Mileena and Kitana mention it IS impenetrable. This is the first time anyone's made it in. Kang finds this unnerving. As the move up the palace towards the throne room, they do find small packets of resistance, each character getting a chance to show off moves and "progress" through the palace.

Raiden does find Shang Tsung's remains, being resurrected by Khan, however the resurrection isn't complete. This gives Raiden a chance to fight as near-mortal (And be the first of the boss battles if you're a fan). Khan allows the mostly-zombie Shang Tsung to fight Raiden as he deals with another matter:

The core group manages to make to Khans Throne Room, but not before confronting Kintaro. Johnny Cage, full of hubris with his fight with Goro, says "I got this" and boy does he get it, getting killed in the process. He does damage Kintaro enough, though, that Kitana is able to dispatch him with Raiden's help.

Khan laughs: "At last you are all here. The only ones who could have stopped my complete takeover, and their neutered god-protector." It's only then that Kang notices that all this time Mileena and Baraka have done nothing in the throne room. "We can take care of all of you at once, and my invasion will accelerate!"

Big fight ensues:
Mileena (who has been working with Khan the whole time) and Kitana square off.
Baraka (Also Khan agent) and Raiden square off.
Kang and Khan square off.

Khan and Kang have an amazing fight, but Kang is losing. But with Baraka gone, Raiden enters the fight. With Mileena killed, Kitana enters the fight. All three of them finally manage to kill Khan.

With Khan gone, Kitana takes her place as Queen. She's not fond of the outworlders after years of oppressing them through Khan, and now Baraka's invasion, but Sonya and Jax mention that all of them fought for their own freedom, despite Baraka's turncoating. She vows peace and coexistence with them. Using the last of his powers (on this plane of existence), he sends the rest (including Johnny Cage's body) back to Earth. On Earth, with the invasion halted and reversed, Raiden begins to to get his powers back and opens a permanent portal to outworld, so the two worlds can interact.

Liu Kang goes back to Thailand, and decides to stay with the monks he left long ago. Sonya and Jax direct the cleanup efforts in their towns. Raiden goes back to being a wandering god.

Looking back at it, there's some issues. Not enough MK2 characters, and NO MK3 characters. Anyone's who played the game would know of Baraka and Mileena's turncoat status the moment they saw them.

But I still think it's a better movie than we got.
