Cheng Zhan-Jin
Pre-infection
Born in 2236 in Aceh, Indonesia to Chinese parents, Zhan-Jin from an early age showed an eye for illustration. However, his parents did not see eye-to-eye with this, and demanded he take a side job in his father's acupuncture clinic in his teens, hoping to have him learn and take over his father's practice. He managed to deal with his parents for many years by compromising, using his drafting skills to draw pressure point maps for the patients in the clinic.
Matters came to a head in 2254 when his father refused to allow him to go to an engineering college, demanding he take classes to push a medical degree. A simmering fued began, and the two quickly became estranged.
Zhan-Jin moved to Thailand where he started studying professional engineering drafting, receiving a degree two years later. Instead of going directly into the job market, he took a year off to backpack and tour the far east. Deciding he liked Beijing, he settled there and got a job with an engineering firm. In 2259, he had a light, but extended, flu sickness. It was at this time the Genevieve Virus activated.
Infection & Post-Infection
The Genevieve Virus was particularly harsh on Zhan-Jin, and his memory loss was quick. The memory loss was seen as a sign of instability by his employers who fired him. Soon after, he lost his way after making a grocery run, and was unable to find his way home due to his rapidly deteriorating memory.
It was in 2261 that he lost his memory of being Zhan-Jin completely. With no family connection, and unable to find home again, he became a homeless wanderer with no concept of his previous identity. Going by Genevieve's original name “Genoveva” no one caught on for some time that he may have been one of the Genevieves. He became a master at breaking into houses, living there while their owners were away, and hiding in the woods, storm drains, and anywhere he could stay a night. He became sullen, withdrawn, and easily spooked.
It wasn't until he was caught in a house, arrested and jailed in 2263 that anyone recognized him as possibly one of the Genevieves. The Genevieve Project settled with the house owners, and negotiated with the local governments to have him released under medical care. He then became the third confirmed case of Genevieve Syndrome, and the first known male sufferer.
While Genoveva identifies as the woman from Vindia, he does not consider himself transgender. While he does miss his original body, and apparently has some distress around certain body-types of women, he has no plans or wish to transition. This information is hard to glean as he becomes intensely uncomfortable talking about gender issues – while he's acclimated to his body, the gender divide clearly bothers him.
