It's kind of a double edged sword.
When I started my transition, it wasn't all peaches and cream, but I was given a lot of respect and allowed to keep my dignity for the most part. But when we started to become visible...
On one hand, harassment started to go up. As we started to be used as a wedge issue (and that started LONG before the last few years), it became harder to interact publically without dealing with distress.
On the other, though, that respect and dignity became love and compassion. For ever negative gain, there was a positive gain. And while I'd rather do without the negative stuff, the positive is way way way...um...well...positive. :)
