Jan. 4th, 2022 12:21 pmWatching this video kinda brings to mind that I do know the "words" behind Mandarin Chinese, and even a good number of characters, but the tone system just kept me from learning any more, since the tones can drastically change the meaning of the word and I just couldn't wrap my head around it.
I also didn't do myself any favors by learning the characters in ENGLISH versus Chinese. An example of that would be that I know "我爱你" as "I love you" but not as "Wo ai ni" (I mean, I KNOW that one, but say "白米粉" and I know it as "White Rice Flour" but have no idea what it's pronounced as).
I should really sit down and just take classes on my Spanish/Japanese/Chinese instead of just relying on casually/badly learned languages in high school.
