I vaguebooked last night that I got a "Very Happy Star Trek Day Present" but didn't know it until yesterday. I didn't want to post it until I got my limited edition copy of Star Trek: The Motion Picture (The Director's Edition) in my hand. But that won't be delivered until next week at this point. And after yesterday, I had to get a copy, just to make sure I wasn't dreaming.

If you put in the Bonus Disc, choose "New Features" "The Human Adventure" "Play All" and fast forward to 48 minutes and 17 seconds, you'll see the screengrab below.

I had no idea this was gonna happen.

I'd been in touch with David C. Fein for a little while before the new Director's Edition was announced, through a mutual friend who was interested in my ST:TMP Script Database (of which a newly updated (And public!) version is now at http://dolari.net/startrek/tmp ). We chatted a few times, mostly me cheerleading from the little snippets I saw once the new Director's Edition was announced, and more so after the trailer came out. (CAN YOU FIND THE SUPER SECRET FIX THEY MADE TO THE MOVIE THAT NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT (except that one guy on YouTube who figured it out))?

I was surprised to get the invite to go see the movie in California. See my fave movie with the people who restored it and a few who were IN it? ABSOLUTELY.

But this. I wasn't expecting this.

Thanks, y'all. I'm thankful for the movie invite, thankful for some behind-the-scenes talk about the movie. Thankful to meet some people I've wanted to meet for a LONG time, even if only for a few moments.

But the thing I'm most thankful for?

You may have noticed I'm focusing on bringing my creative works to the forefront again. That is the direct result of all this. A reminder that this was a world I wanted to get into in my late teen years but couldn't do while I was running around the country trying to start my transition. A second wind to a dream I lost in 1995 of getting into screenwriting.

So "Many Thanks" to YOU, David, for yet another booster shot of creative energy in the arm.
