This morning, I turned the car on and heard a terrible grinding noise. A couple of quick checks narrowed it down to the A/C. Turn it on, the grinding noise starts. Turn it off, the grinding noise ends.
Given that I just did a patch job on the skid plate, I did a quick check and pressing on the plate cause the sound to go away just only for a bit.
I ended up just taking the whole skid plate off alltogether, but the sound didn't go away. So it's likely the compressor finally died on it, and the fact that it died right after the skid plate was just coincindence.
I won't be fixing it, at least for now. I could afford a fix right now, but at the same time, fixing the A/C, the skid plate, and the sensors that need replacing are more than the car is worth.
Normally, I'd say "fix it anyways" but being unemployed, and it being drivable, I can get by without A/C. Noit sure about the skid plate, though. I found out the reason my car even has one is because the engine hangs so low, the skid plate protects the accessory belt from debris and shocks.
If I get a good paying job, I'll see about buying that pickup I keep threatening to do. If it's not good paying we'll get her fixed.
