The Interview.

Interview went very well. The job is in a part of San Marcos I'm intimately familiar with (seriously), I aced their test, and some Wincor alumni have worked there. So it looks like a shoe-in...assuming there's a job to get at all.

When everything was said and done, they said..."we're not hiring right now."

Huh wha?

They mentioned they were building a pool of prospective employees for later. They had a big contract coming down the pipes in a few months, and they wanted to have people ready to hit the ground running if the contract goes through. Call us back in two weeks. Then two weeks after that if there's nothing.

Normally, I'd say this was another blow-off. But this time, I think they meant it. The place looked a lot like Wincor did near the end of my tenure. They were running so hard on so few people that if this contract didn't go through, it might be the end of the company.

So, I'm in hurry up and wait mode. I'll give them their month (Austin counter reset to 31 days, cause if they're offering in good faith, they might just call). If I dont' get anything in 31, off to Seattle.

I know this sounds like backpedaling, but if they really mean it, I'll be employed by the end of that countdown.

Seems as if a few places are doing this sorta thing. My boss does interviews for prospectives every Monday - though he may have put it on hold as we don't have the payroll to support any more folks. It does put you into limbo, however, and it probably would've been better if they had mentioned that they weren't currently hiring at the beginning of the interview to give you the chance to inform them you were looking for a place that was hiring. :-)

Hope they get the contract, hire you - and it isn't the last one they get. That would just drop you back in the pool.
