In light of everything that's happened in Virginia, my own personal issues doesn't really matter too much, but we had a bit of a crisis ourselves the last few days.
On Monday, I got word that my mother had gone to hospital complaining of chest pains. Our family is all overweight, myself included, heart attacks, diabetes and high blood pressure run ramapant in our family trees (as does cancer). It doesn't look too good for thosse with our genes.
That evening whatever was attacking her got worse and worse. One ultrasound later it turned out she had gallstones, and not only that, but her gall bladder had swollen to the point that it was pushing up against her liver.
I flew home that evening, mom had her surgery in the morning and is now resting uncomforatbly in her bed. She's out of it, but thankfully my dad and sister are doing a good job of keeping her in high spirits, and I'm doing some of the chores around the house as they're off working.
I'm going home tonight, should be into work in the afternoon unless something major happens. She's a tough old bird, and hates being off her feet. She'll be up and around before you know it...and prolly before the doctors want her to be.
On a side note, it's funny how crises make you act. This entire time, the both of them have referred to me as she without thinking or correcting themselves. Mom sent me grocery shopping, and asked me to do the laundry. In her view, that's woman's work, and asking a man to go grocery shopping in her eyes is like asking a man to bear a child. It's nice to know how they really think of me, cause they didn't have time to think to themselves that they might need to rephrase anything.
Or maybe it's a Whatever Happened to Baby Jane kinda thing. They're too afraid I'll run a wheelchair down the stairs. Hmmm...maybe next time this happens I'll bring a copy of that movie...just in case someone gets uppity. ;)

Hope all continues to go as well as possible...!

...And your mother's behavior was already a substantial improvement over what it used to be. Continued improvement on this front sounds good.
