Since 2001 I've been a Livejournal girl. This is my 4138th journal entry. I've seen LJ go up, and LJ go down, and get bought, and sold and bought and changed. The latest one is the end of the "basic" journal level. No ads, but also no extras. That's gone away, and I have a feeling in a few months I'll be moved to "Plus" level.

I was thinking of buying a permanent/paid account, but realized everything LJ could give me - I kinda have already. I'm beginning to wonder if I should simply import this Livejournal account (and the Dream Journal and the extinct Angel in Yellow) into my Wordpress account, and then just post from there.

Using Wordpress, I can make it post to this LJ account and the Dream journal account, as well as crosspost into my (seldom used by me, but very used by friends) Facebook and MySpace accounts (turning them from "Hey, go look over there" to actual blogs).

Lately, I've been considering merging the Dreamjournal and Regular Journal accounts as it is...

What say you, the audience at home?

I am considering much the same thing. I have a paid account, and I've been on LJ (paying) since 2002. I figure I'll still have to come here for reading my f-list, but as far as posting cross-functionality (and the fact that I'd like to start writing a blog for more professional-type stuff) I might be switching.

It's your journal, you get to make the rules :)

Personally, I'd say go for it.

Aas you well know, all of my LJ entries are crossposts from my main site running WordPress. Catch me on AIM if you have any specific questions you want to ask me; I can't think of anything really to suggest at this point that you haven't already covered. :-)

I think the bar at the top of my entries speaks for itself. ^_^

I don't use my LJ for much, and really only opened the account at the request of my sister, to read her locked entries. I use it regularly to read the locked and private entries of all my friends at this time.

I maintain (albeit not that often anymore) a blogger weblog, as well as a Facebook and MySpace page.

Cheers,
Gwen Smith

I am now wondering...what if all the basic users left?

I've heard repeatedly in various forms, "I don't like what's happening, but my friends-list is here, so I'm staying." Would that still be true if every basic user was gone?

This basic user hasn't left yet. Did I miss something?

I kind of like my distinct little corners of cyberspace. I like this corner for it's control, and stability - vs. my own stability of having to always be on top of hosting bills. *shrug* So... I dunno, I'll still be doing my personal stuff here, even though I will have option for WordPress on the new website.

Honestly? The reason I don't move? The #1 reason? Filtering. There isn't a single other blog service that isn't some clone of LJ's code, that has filtering. Unfortunately, almost all of my posts I'd rather not be public--LJ has that functionality, and none of the "blog" services seem to.

The #2 reason seems to be the community, but something tells me that someday soon there's going to be a mass exodus anyways.

#3 is obvious. I have a Permanent account, thus having spent like $150 into the sucker, I'll probably leave right about the time it goes down in flames.

I say go for what seems the most stable place to post, and send things out from there. It seems everything can be linked together anyway nowadays. Pick the podium you like best.

I wonder if I can hunt you down on Facebook... :)

If anyone was technically savvy enough to do this, you can!

I'd vote for importing to Wordpress. I'm only here because I bought a perm account some years ago. I've been disappointed with how LJ has treated folks, overall.
