It's not just me - it's [livejournal.com profile] erinlefey, [livejournal.com profile] blissfish, [livejournal.com profile] bramblekite [livejournal.com profile] iqtech and now possibly [livejournal.com profile] throm and [livejournal.com profile] ambientsidewalk. Definately something at the moviegasm....

I'd drink some Gatorade to replenish my fluids, but I just found out Gatorade has INCREDIBLY high potassium levels and my anti-testosterone pills can raise those levels dangerously at the levels I want to drink it.

Ah, well, water and salt it is.

Update: While looking for something not as potassiumy and deyhydrated as badly as I am (I've got dry everything), give this a try

Add to one litre of safe water: Salt 1/2 small spoon (3.5 grams) Sugar 4 big spoons (40 grams). It's kinda close to a drink I make before bed to stop leg cramps from the spiro dehydration (water and a pinch of salt).

Update 2 - wow that tastes VILE.

Crackers (those Christies salted ones) can help. They absorb the nasty fluids in your stomach give you something to bring up if your boody absolutely insists on bringing things up.

Aw, crap. I've been downing Gatorade a lot over the last few months, to offset the dehydration I feel after work.

man....SUCK.

Thax got me gatorade and crackers on his way home today...man, it's the best thing I've ever eaten.

PS: Thax says drinking gatorade on a daily basis will give you kidney stones...and you don't want that.

*hugs* feel better soon

Try mixing in some cranberry juice?

I was about to post to recommend that same sort of home-made recipe! 'pedialyte' is basically just that, but much more expensive, anyway. Rehydrate.org suggests adding orange juice for a more reasonable amount of potassium, and also zinc as a possibility.

Hope you feel better soon!

Actually Orange Juice is very high in potassium and is listed as a food to avoid (or eat sparingly) if you're on a potassium restricted diet. Cranberry juice, however, is a low potassium drink.

My hormone therapy seems sooooo much simpler than yours. My worst problem is needle fright, which hasn't improved since I started in May 2005.

There's a lot of crap with these pills I take. The estradiol pills are hell on the liver, the spironolactone builds up the potassium levels while dehydrating you and all this for boobs. :)

I would have done the needle thing, but my first doctor wouldn't let anyone do it themselves, and I stopped seeing Dr. Arcinega because my insurance was flat out claiming everything as a prexisting condition, and I couldn't drop the $1000 on blood tests. :P

Out in the Pacific Northwet we've got Knudsen juices...they have this thing called recharge. It's basically watered down juice with sea salt, and it's very effective electrolyte-wise, not to mention *yummy*. You get it at hippy stores or grocery stores in Mexican neighborhoods. Do they gots that in Texas?

::sigh:: There's so many potassium rich foods out there, and unfortunately many of them are the few healthy foods that I really like.

It doesn't help you today, but I really like Nuun (http://www.nuun.com/index.php) as an electrolyte supplement since the lithium I take makes me lose salts so fast. It doesn't seem to have much potassium in it (50mg per tablet), doesn't taste too bad, and is really portable. It is pricey, though.

I wasn't a big fan of bananas to begin with. I don't think I've had one since...wow...two or three apartments ago?

Looks like somebody passed around something, for sure.

I feel kinda guilty about not feeling sick. :(

When I read the ingredients to most sport drinks like gatorade I found the ingredients were identical to koolaid with some salt thrown in.

That said I usually drink dr pepper and orange juice at work... I didn't want to drink 4 dr.peppers because of the sugar and caffine and how cola-types are generally bad for you, but I didn't want to drink 4 OJ's because that spikes up the Vitamin C and acid's.

Though I'm like the only person who has never called in sick. For any Job I've ever had.

Holistic remedy for rotavirus

Cranberry Juice has potent flavonoids which will clear up most urinary infections and will boost your immune system, while Green Tea has flavonoids, including tannins, gallic acid esters, and catechins that will inhibit the influenza virus and the diarrhea-causing rotaviruses that will give your system a chance to heal itself. So what I used to do when I got the bug in my system would drink green tea plain then plenty of water and aloe vera juice, then flush my system by taking charcoal tablets and then re-establish by eating yogurt. I also found that Elderberry (either tea or extract) does a good job on viruses too.

Add me to that list - general listlessness yesterday followed by severe cramps, nausea, intestinal distress and over-all body ache today.
