My dad a few weeks ago had a pig butchered, and gave me a good deal of pork, enough to prolly feed me until I leave. Last night was the first night I cooked some of it, shoulder steak. I had dinner about Midnight or so, and began doing some story editing on a story when the cramps hit. ALL FREAKIN' NIGHT LONG.

I was just totally down for the count. I called in sick because by the time the cramps got to a point where I could sleep, I needed to be at work in an hour. I still had cramps (they woke me up often), but at the very least I got some sleep (9 hours worth).

I don't know if I should cook any more of this pork, or just cook it to an inch of it's life. I've had freshly butchered pork before, but this is the first time I've gotten sick from it.

I'd go with the "cook it within an inch of its life" route, because undercooked pork guts are pain like no other in the universe. I've had it way too many times, usually due to cooking the pork just fine, but biting my nails with one molecule of uncooked stuff that I missed while scrubbing my hands. :(

Do you have a crock pot? If not, it's a great cheap investment, and one of the best ways I've found to make pork recipes that are A. totally cooked, B. cheap, C. easy, and 4. actually healthy. :)

No crock pot, but once I move to Seattle, it'll be on the top of my list. :)

How soon do you get to move? I'm tempted to just say invest NAO, because if you get the basic one at K-Mat or Wal-Mart or TArget or wherever they're like $15. The pain they will save you is unimaginable. (I'm one of those people who I can eat an entire raw freaking cow, and sushi till I die of old age, but if I eat even SLIGHTLY underdone pork or chicken I am like the terminal flu for 4 days straight)

Just saying if you move date is anytime more than 3 weeks out? Totally a good investment right now and takes up VERY little space to move, about the same as one good pair of knee boots. ;D ALSO! For moving? Put all your measuring cups, spoons IMPORTANT KEYS!!! and other little stuff inside (since it can't scratch or chip from anything that small, and it's too big to be lost), then duct tape the lid on. It saved my life to remember that if I needed a key for something, it was in the crockpot.

Ooooh! Good idea on the Keys thing! I'm moving August 1st, it's looking like, so I'll see about picking one up.

I second both the "cooking it within an inch of its life" and "crock pot"

I cook my pork for no less than 2 hours at 350F....or if its chops, I cook it for almost 45 min (browning, then steaming). So yeah ^^ Also, pork for me has the distinction of being responsible for every single time I've ever gotten food poisoning.
