I just saw the season finale of Doctor Who.

I have a feeling I'm going to be the only one who doesn't like the episode. In fact, as a writer, it actually made me angry. But my god - the sheer amount of....conveniences.

I'll talk more about it when I know others have seen it.

Nope, you're not the only one.

I haven't seen it yet, but I've already seen definite signs of Discontent among my friends list.

Was this the one about the wasp and the murder mysteries lady?

Oh, not. The Wasp episode was REALLY REALLY good, if a bit goofy (I like goofy). No, this was the season finale, which'll show up on the Sci Fi Channel in about a month.

There were bits I loved, and bits I couldn't stand.

The, erm, thing (speaking vaguely for non-spoilerifficness) with davros showing the doctor his soul, for instance? brilliant. And a lot of the companion moments.

But far, far too much crap. About 30% RTD at his best, 70% at his worst.

The irony is, I wouldn't be so very disappointed if the last preceding two, no, three! episodes, also penned by RTD, hadn't been so damn good. I was just about ready to forgive him for the crap he'd written in the past... and then we get this. :/

I thought that whole "Look at the Monsters You've Created" scene was WONDERFUL. Especially Sarah Jane yelling at Davros, which just SCREAMED "THAT'S our Sarah Jane!"

But everything else...wow...what a cheat.

Who disappoints. A bit, at least.

Haven't seen the finale. Yet.

I'm not too thrilled about the current season, though.

It's been somewhat disappointing and seriously annoying of late: All the things he needs are conveniently at hand, precisely at the picosecond they are needed, the severely ridiculous premises and "explanations", the lame formula scripting that (more than most) tells you exactly what's going to happen and when, etc.

He has a few things going for him, though. He's kind of cute, he's still mysterious, and they're letting on a bit more about him from time to time. That's about enough to keep one's interest. Still, that gets tossed out the window when they have a bad story.

Sometimes I wonder if they are intentionally trying to piss it all away.

I didn't mind the season - I thought Donna saved a lot of the season from being bad. But the conveniences and Five Minute Superpowers just don't cut it.

>Sometimes I wonder if they are intentionally trying to piss it all away.

I actually have an idea that Donna's "rewrite" was done as a way for RTD to say "So, you like Donna better than Rose? Fine, she's a jerk again and now she can NEVER EVER EVER COME BACK. SO THERE. PBBBT."

I read the summary on wiki and am downloading it now -- it all does seem terribly convenient.

Remember - it is a show for children. Just repeat after me: Doctor Who is a children's program. Doctor Who is a children's program. Doctor Who is a children's program. Doctor Who is a children's program.

I expect that kind of kiddie stuff from the Sarah Jane adventures - THAT'S kiddified (and I enjoy it, a lot!). And yeah, Dr. Who is a kids show, but a lot of older Classic Who was written better than this, it it could be shoddy at times. This was Voyager level of Bad Writing.

I just wanna know - why was the moon still in place when they put the planet back? Did they install a clear placeholder pixel when they hauled off the earth??

I haven't seen it yet, so I'm avoiding looking at your other comments, but frankly I'm just assuming everyone's going to hate it. It's another RTD finale. Dobby Who, yes?

Army of Ghosts/Doomsday wasn't bad at all, at least not to me. But the other season enders...yeeek.
