Mmm, post apocalyptic flannel.

I got into work late, by an hour. To be honest, I'd been doing that all week and claiming it as my lunch. Ah, well, whatcha gun do on your last week. I showed up and there were Kolaches and Donues waiting for us when I got in. A going away present from my manager.
The day was pretty slow, with people filtering in an talking to me here and there till about 1PM or so when I got A Call from Hell. Just a way to end my tenure at work, was with a call that I ended up on for two hours. About an hour in, Max kept telling me "why don't you get her off the pohone, I'll call her back later." I didn't want to do that - that's not how I work. I just work on calls till they're through. But she was insistent, and at about the two and a half hour mark I found out why. Everyone had been waiting to deliver the cake and card they made for me:

Every last Friday of the month, the company has Q&A And a Movie. I moved the cake in there, the QA was made and the movie started. As soon as the movie started I left and roamed the halls one last time, saying goodbyes to everyone who wasn't in the movie room. It took some time, and I tried to make time for everyone. When I went back into the theater, I watched the rest of the movie, and when it was over, I piped up saying that today was my last day, thanks for having me, and not firing me when I threw my headset for the third time.
You know, when I started working at my job, it was disorganized, our software and hardware failed constantly, tempers flared, and the day after I was hired, there was a meeting where the CEO said "Well, we've survived worse, we'll survive this next quarter." At one point, I threw my headset at the ground and yelled that this place had 30 days to shape up or I'd quit. Two years later, we were a streamlined machine, our hardware was GOOD (except for a supplier defect), we were organized, and out company was going STRONG. The people were the best I've worked with since Swan, maybe even better. This wasn't a company, it was a family. A group of coworkers who had been through enough crucibles to know that when the going gets rough, you steele yourself up and back each other up. They all treated me so so so well. I didn't want to leave. I still don't, and the door is open if they ever want to hire me from Seattle. Even then, from what I've seen of former employees who just show up to cha, I'm not unwelcome there. :)
I'm gonna miss those folks...
I got home that night, and hugged EMily tight tight. I was unemployed, and soon would be homeless. But it would so totally be worth it.
Saturday, July 26th - 34th Annual Fourth International Jenn Day
I had made plans on my birthday to go to a Japanese Steak house. Grab some cake and ice cream afgterwards. Nice quiet birthday. I'd also gotten a $25 Best Buy gift certificate from my manager, and decided to use it to cut in half the price of a Doctor Who DVD set I'd wanted (New Beginnings), and see if we could get a sneak shot of the Sidekick 2008s yet. We shot down to the one near San Marcos only to fiond their Doctor Who section had one or two DVDs and a billion of a box set I wasn't particularly interested in. We ran off to one in Austin, same deal.
We'd gotten a call from Dean (and Amy wishing me a happy brithday!), he wanted to hang out tonight, so I invited him to the Japanese Steakhouse Dinner we were proposing. Even better, the one I wanted to go to was right down the street.
So. The Japanese Steakhouse. There's a dinner on the website's menu for Kobe Beef and Lobster:
The website also had a little disclaimer saying not all dinners were available at all restaurants. And the Imperial Dinner WASN'T on the menu. Which is good, really. I was agonizing over wether to get it or not. I could eat a $100 dinner, or save that for later. When Dean offered to pay half of the dinner, I actually felt GUILTIER about it. I mean, I LOVE Lobster Tail. I've never had Kobe Beef. I was also UNEMPLOYED. But the decision was made for me, and I ended up with Lobster Tail and Ribeye Steak, which rocked and was $70 less. :) Which Dean then decided he'd pay for all of it. ::grins:: Just for that, I got the sashimi roll for all of us, which was totally not what I expected, but good anyway.

When we got back to Dean's, there was much Wii bowling, followed by Ice Cream at Marble Slab with two people who were either on drugs, or suffering from an overdose of testosterone. Fun AND annoying at the same time. Just as we were leaving, we were greeted by the Birthday Gecko who sang Happy Birthday for me.

That evening, we went home, got some sleep.
Sunday, July 27th
We slept late, got some Chinese food for dinner (I got what seems to me a Gigantic Pile of Shrimp and Onions), and...it's not a birthday without a Red Velvet Cake:

And then we got to the nitty gritty. We began packing.

The first packed box. Yes, I realize that's a book on Geri Spice. Bite me.
Actually UNpacking. I've had boxes of toys and books that have been in huge boxed since I moved out in 2001. I took all those out and repacked them in smaller boxes, although the Pile Of Toys hasn't been reboxed yet. Nearly all the books are reboxed in smaller easier to handle boxes. I'm really beginning to feel under the gun. I have Mon, Tue and Wed to finish packing. I need to be out of the house by Noon on Thursday. And yet tomorrow, we're heading into San Antonio for new glasses before my insurance runs out. I'm also putting in my power-cut-off date and mail forwarding to the austin PO Box (which will be forwarded to a Seattle PO Box when I get one). So much left to do, so little time left....
Thanks for all the donations everyone. They were totally totally appreciated. :)

Imperial Dinner
Treat yourself to a feast fit for an Emperor!
We combine a Kobe Beef and Lobster dinner with a table-grilled shrimp appetizer and ice cream or sherbet for dessert.
Imperial Dinner (Kobe Beef and Lobster) $100.00

Date: 2008-07-28 04:16 pm (UTC)(I deleted my first question about the cover of the Hobbit, because I realized that to answer it you might have to UNpack everything, which would be a total waste of your time. So don't worry about it.) : )
