I'm actually already home; our Houston facilities closed at noon today. Once we're done prepping the house for the storm, there's nothing for it for us except to sit and wait.
I'll try and make updates to people on a regular basis as to how I am. Thankfully I have two spare cell phones with charged batteries just in case. :-)
And according to KTRK's website, the storm is expected to make landfall as a "4" southwest of Galveston, with the whole of Houston to be affected by Cat-3 winds.
Of the three places where I really don't want a hurricane, it's Tampa Bay (especially Pinellas County, where I live), New Orleans (below sea level, and the levees aren't guaranteed) and Houston (America's petrochemical breadbasket). I know at least one Livejournal friend, Jin Wicked, who lives in Houston, and will be among many, many people who will be in the thick of it come Saturday.
If you live in Houston, stay safe. If not, hope that they stay safe, and that Ike misses.
wow...it's a small world after all. I used to talk to jin wicked a few years ago, though I doubt she remembers. I'd offer people some refuge if I knew them long enough and actually had a place of my own. maybe next year
