Wednesday, August 5th - Day Three - Las Vegas, NV
We were so tired and frazzled coming into Las Vegas that we didn't hear the mysterious thump of something large hitting the windshield...
We took our time at the Motel 6 in Vegas, buying an extra day there, and allowing us to sleep late late late. We needed some down time, and we took it. We slept in, took our time getting ready for the day, and by the time we left the hotel, it was well into the afternoon.
Getting into the pickup, we were suprised to find that on our way to Las Vegas, we'd hit a bat.

We thought we'd heard a bump in the night, but wasn't sure. We took the poor guy and set him aside the truck, and headed to The Star Trek Experience at the North Hilton. We found the place pretty quickly...

We'd forgotten our tickets, but the exxhibit was able to get them online and reprint them for us. There wasn't much of a line for the first ride (the Borg Invasion), so we took our time through the Museum of the Future...
Pictures of which are behind this cut.

Eventually we got into the Borg Invasion 4D ride. One thing about these theme rides...they try very hard to get you into the feel of the ride. In this case, you walk from your line into a Starfleet briefing room where your recruiter (who is an actor with you) and the Voyager Doctor informs you you're Borg Resistant and they want to research you to find out why.
The problem is, I didn't feel part of it. There was no real "you're in another world" feel, becaue you walk from your line into the a room where sommeone is already ready to "brief you."
Anyways, the Borg invade and they assimilate you as you sit in amovie theater escape shuttlecraft along with 3D glasses safety goggles. To be honest, I was less that impressed.
Anyways, you're assimilated (they have little things that poke you in your seat - which is a bit of a shock if you aren't expecting it :) ) but the Doctor tells you to fight it as Voyager (WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE VOYAGER? I HATED VOYAGER!) comes to your rescue. (Okay, I hated Voyager, but I loved Janeway in this). We were unassimilated and exited to the gift shop. It really didn't feel like we did anything but watch a movie, and I was kinda dissapointed with it.
Before we tried the next experience, we decided to have some dinner at Quark's Bar, which really looks like Quark's bar. :D

I ordered some fish and chips, Emily got some pizza. In the middle of the meal, we were accosted by a Klingon who had some comments on our dinner:
Klingon: NO NO NO NO! Why did you order these? You can get these anywhere!
Jenn: What should I have gotten? So I know what to get next time I'm in the system?
Klingon: There is Gagh. Targ. They serve tribble here!
Jenn: I've heard tribble tastes just like chicken?
Klingon: It is 90% uterus. How they get the hair off it, I will never know!
The table next to us got the great line "It says 'Canon' yet it fires nothing!"
As the day went on, we noticed more and more people wearing outfits. Turns out, we'd landed in the middle of a Star Trek Convention going on at the same place, and as the con wound down, all the Trekkies came to the experience. On our second trip through the line for the Klingon Encounter experience, a Ferengi, Rogg'l, came through, as well as two folks in TOS outfits from the con and posed for pictures.
We entered the Klingon Encounter, and to be honest, I wasn't expecting much. However...I'm glad I did the Borg thing first, cause the Klingon Encounter...WOW, that was GREAT. :D
We were shuffled into a room where the floor was marked out on the ground like we were going to load into a Disney-esque 4D ride. Once we were in our lines, they showed a video about safety (Including a great shot of a pregnant woman being told she shouldn't be on the ride, and her husband just waving as she left). Suddenly the lights go out, a rush of wind, sparkle lights, and the next thing you know, you're in the Enteprise D transporter room.
No, really. THE REAL ENTERPRISE D TRANSPORTER ROOM.
Holy freaking crap. There was a live action actor waiting for us there, in old TNG uniforms, who asked us to follow her. And then we walked into the Enterprise D Corridor.
No, really. THE REAL ENTERPRISE D COORIDORS. I nearly fainted.
And then we get into a turbo lift...and GET ON THE FREAKING BRIDGE.
No, really. THe REAL ENTERPRISE D BRIDGE. At that point the Trekkie in me orgasmed on the spot and bought into this completely. Someone in our group was an ancestor of the missing Jean Luc Picard, and WE NEEEDED TO GET YOU BACK TO YOUR TIME NOW! So we're shuffled off to the Shuttlebay and loaded into a shuttle taking us home. While flying around, Klingons attack us. We swooped in and around town till we landed next to the "simulators" we were going to otiginally board, and exited back out into the hotel (after being guided by a janitor who told us "What chu doin' here? Y'ain't supposed to be down here!" in a thick and fake Brooklyn Accent.
At the end of that...I was just....just WOW.
After seeing the bridge, and knowing that the bridge was the REAL ENTERPRISE D BRIDGE, we HAD to get a pic of the both of us in there. We bought a set of tickets to get into the bridge, and our guide (quietly exasperated that she was working an hour of overtime) guided us into the Bridge. We were the only ones taking a pic at this time, and so she let us take our time getting into poses. Emily in the Captains Chair and me at Tactical. And CLICK! I usually don't like posting pics of me on the website, but this...well...this is an exception:

As we were the only ones to take pics, and there was a Borg Invasion tour going through, we got some time to actually look around the bridge. Our inner fans went all SQUEE as we got to actually...well...BE ON THE BRIDGE. Amazing, and a really speial moment for me. The guide led us back out, and we had to hide from the Invansion tour, but she gave us a quick sneak peak into the Borg chamber while we waited.
We went back into the experience and they were closing up for the night. So we decided to take a quick ride on the monorail to get some pics of Las Vegas at night. Problem is...the monorail didn't actually take you down the strip! So we hardly saw anything. The only thing we really got to see was...well.....

We went back into the Hilton, taking a quick tour of the Hilton's casino area...

I'd considered playing Blackjack, as I'm pretty good at it, but I decided against it. But we couldn't leave Vegas without at least playing a slot machine.

We both actually quadrupled our bets! But...well....a dollar times four is four dollar, and we spent all that trying for more. Shoulda quit while we were ahead. :D We left the Hilton, and by now it was nighttime. So we hit the Vegas strip for the light show.

We made our way back to the hotel, and with dreams of Star Trek, Gambling and Bright Lights, we slept sweet sweet dreams....
