How centrally do you live? And how much distance are you covering here...how long would it take in a car?

I'm about 10 miles out of central seattle where I work. Driving there isn't a prob lem and i've done it. It's the $10 a day for parking that hurts ($22 if I don't get in before 8AM)

Okay. Seattle is one of the few places in the US I've actually considered living almost entirely on the basis of public transit, so I was wondering why you were having such a hard time with it. Understood about the parking; that's why no one drives in Chicago unless they're in actually out in the 'burbs. Here I still have issues with the 2 hour commute to get to my job that's 15 minutes away in a car. :-/

I might suggest biking if it's close enough to the P&R, but you might want to check availability of stalls and storage. Then again, bringing a bike to work would give you a little flexibility in sight seeing and whatnot while you're up here.

Do any buses stop near where you live? Connecting bus, perhaps?

It's a pain, I know. It always takes me a while to figure out a new route, and how to work around it's hiccups. The 44 was the only bus I used to be able to take to a job, and There were days that I'd be at the stop on time, and there would be no bus. It wouldn't be late, it just wouldn't *be*. The worst was waiting to get home one day and 2? 3? scheduled buses just didn't show. They're supposedly adding more buses to the 44 route, and hopefully that will take care of the skipped times, and oddly frequent breakdowns of those buses. And sometime next year, it looks like they're going to be shutting down major intersections and roads here (in my neighborhood) while they build and change some stuff. That will be scary in terms of trying to figure out how to get anywhere. However, if this means rail is on it's way, I could be happy about that (In theory, you might have a rail option before we do).

The main problems is the hill I live on. It's a quarter mile from my house to my park and ride. But I live at 300 feet above sealevel, and the park and ride is at 20. The walk is brutal as the crow flies and LONG on the roads (about a mile and a half up the same hill).

I'll prolly be going to a different park and ride.

Not saying that this is practical, but can you walk to work, or maybe drive / take the bus to somewhere further away and walk the rest. There might be more (free?) parking elsewhere and cheap transport the rest of the way.
