Emily is here. My dad is here. These are very good things.
The truck - well, it's 70% good news. The air filter, oil and coolant have all been changed out. The leak was found, tubes and heater valves were replaced...
...but the leak is still there. Not nearly as bad as before - where it was dribbling water out at good clip, it now leaks only when it starts, for a few minutes. The culprit is the one hose we couldn't replace, which is a specialty hose, and would involve taking a TON of engine apart to fix. That's going to a mechanic if and when I can afford it.
The worrisome part is, there may be another leak. Maybe. We're not sure. The leak coming out of the bottom of the truck seems to be a little more than what's coming out of the tubing. It's dripping more water than we're seeing coming out of the tubing. There's a strut there with a curved up flange, so water is kind of pooling there, and we can't figure out if it's dripping more because there's another leak, or because there's already water pooled there, or its "delayed" dripping.
While the truck is kind of a dissapointing win, having my dad and Emily here has SERIOUSLY boosted my emotional state. I'm no longer feeling just DOWN, but I'm cautiously optimistic about the future (till I think about the repair work coming up, oi). I'm feeling a bit better, and lot happier.
Hopefully I can get out of the quagmire I've found myself in and start making progress on all the fronts I've neglected in the last month....

Date: 2008-11-11 07:01 pm (UTC)Another option if you havent done so already, dont tighten down the radiator cap. Radiators run about 15 lbs of pressure to increase the boiling point. It also increases leaks if you have one. If you leave it loose and unpressurized, it should leak less. But you'll have to watch the temp guage as 50/50 coolant w/o pressurization is only good to about 230 (check the jug). Which might be fine this time of year since its cool out. Dont use the A/C though (which can be kicked on by the defogger).
