Holy crap. :( Near where you work, or where you live?
I don't know if that mall is in an ordinarily sketchy part of town, but... do you know where the questionable areas are? I'm sure someone could fill ya in, if not.
It's within walking distance (for me) of her apartment, maybe a ten minute drive.
I guess I'm jaded, maybe that kind of thing doesn't happen in the Seattle area very often. In Vancouver, especially Surrey and the Metrotown Mall, it's robbery, stabbing, shooting, gang retaliation, stabbing, stabbing, mugging... Maybe I listen to the news too much.
