In "The Romans" he rather gleefully beat up an assassin sent to dispose of him. That was the 12th serial, late 1964 or early '65. Jon Pertwee's Doctor was always makin' with the martial arts and had a great fencing scene with the Master (in "The Sea Devils" IIRC).
Golly! The Doctor in Japan. I can well understand why the 3rd Doctor was chosen - he works with a paramilitary organisation and knows how to beet seven kinds of crap out of the bad guys - what more could you want from an anime lead?
I understand there are animated or audio adventures for the 8th Doctor, but I've never seen/heard them.
Pertwee did get other, less action orientated roles though...
